300 Syrian mercenaries in Libya
1 Libya
The ‘Al-Arabiya’ TV reports, while citing their source, that on Monday more than 300 Syrian mercenaries have arrived to the airport of the Libyan city of Misrata from Turkey. According to the source of the ‘Al-Arabiya’ — two Libyan aircraft landed on Monday morning at the Misrata Airport. There was a total of 301 Syrian mercenaries on board. The source underlined that the airplanes arrived from Turkey.
2 Syria
On Sunday, the ‘Al-Masdar’ news website reported that during a military operation in the south-western province of Raqqa, the Syrian forces destroyed a group of ISIS terrorists. The government forces cleared the areas around Salmiya, from where the terrorists constantly attacked the military transport convoys. “The terrorists were tracked down and destroyed. As a result, we were able to secure the traffic on the highway from Homs to Raqqa, and from Hama to Deir ez-Zor” — the website quoted a Syrian serviceman who was involved in the operation. According to him — currently the Syrian troops are faced with the task of protecting of the oil wells located in this region. In particular — at the Et-Tayim oil field.
3 Syria
The Russian and Syrian troops conducted a joint military exercise to protect the port of Tartus, where the Russian naval base is located, from a group of saboteurs — the ‘RIA NEWS’ reported with a reference to the head of the naval base ‘Tartus’, Vyacheslav Rodionov. «During the joint tactical exercise, the universal methods of the defense of the naval base ‘Tartus’ were worked out. All the objectives of the training were achieved. The Syrian and Russian naval forces, tasked with the protection of the naval base ‘Tartus’, are ready for action» — said Vyacheslav Rodionov. According to the scenario of the military training — 4 divers-saboteurs tried to plant an explosive device underwater. During the exercises, 2 saboteurs were killed, 2 other were captured.
4 Venezuela
The ‘IRNA’ News Agency reported that the first of five of the Iranian fuel tankers have reached the coast of Venezuela, despite the threats from the USA. Four more Iranian fuel tankers are due to arrive in Venezuela in the near future. The Venezuelan permanent representative to the UN, Samuel Moncada, had warned the UN Security Council and the UN Secretary General, Antoni Guterres, about the threats, posed by the USA, to the Iranian fuel tankers heading to Venezuela.
5 Republic of Korea — the DPRK
The ‘Yonhap’ news agency reports, while citing a source in the intelligence service of the Republic of Korea, that Seoul continues to monitor the possible appearance of a new missile submarine in the DPRK Navy. «According to our data, the submarine is ready to enter the arsenal of the DPRK Navy. We are closely monitoring its commissioning» — the source of ‘Yonhap’ specified. According to the South Korean intelligence agency — a new non-nuclear missile submarine was built at the military shipyards in the city of Sinpo, on the east coast of the country. It has a displacement of about 3,000 tons, and it is armed with 3 medium-range ballistic missiles. The ‘Yonhap’ noted that the submarine might join the DPRK strategic forces, which currently consists of bombers and nuclear missiles.
6 Afghanistan
On Monday, the Afghan president Ashraf Ghani tweeted that the US Secretary of State, Michael Pompeo, expressed his gratitude to Kabul for the initiative of the Afghan authorities to release 2,000 Taliban supporters. Ashraf Ghani stated that Michael Pompeo, during the telephone conversation with him and the head of the Supreme Council for the National Reconciliation of Afghanistan, Abdullah Abdullah, «thanked the Afghan authorities for the bold process of releasing of up to 2,000 Taliban supporters». The Afghan president added that Michael Pompeo mentioned the intention of Washington to “seek a long-term ceasefire in Afghanistan”, and begin the direct inter-Afghan negotiations.
