1 Syria

The head of the Russian Center for the Reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria, Rear Admiral Oleg Zhuravlev, announced that the terrorist group ‘Al-Islamad-Turkestani’ made an explosion with an improvised explosive device in Idlib. “According to the information available to the Russian Center for the Reconciliation of the warring parties — the terrorists of the ‘Al-Islamad-Turkestani’ group were involved in the attack. They detonated an IED when a Turkish military convoy was moving near the ammo depot of the terrorist group” — Oleg Zhuravlev explained. The explosion took place on 27th of May, near the village of Inzik, inside the Idlib de-escalation zone, when the Turkish military convoy was moving on the M-4 highway. The explosion killed a Turkish soldier.

2 Syria

The Russian Center for the Reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria reported that the 13th Russian-Turkish patrol took place along the section of the M-4 highway in Idlib. «On 28th of May, the 13th joint Russian-Turkish patrol took place on the M-4 highway section in the Idlib de-escalation zone that connects Aleppo and Latakia. The joint Russian-Turkish patrol went to the village of Urum-Al-Jawz, in the Idlib province. The route was about 20 kilometers long» — the Center specified. Russia sent two BTR-82A IFVs and one armored car ‘Tiger’ to the patrol. The movement of the joint Russian-Turkish convoy was controlled from above by the Russian Air Force drones. The interaction of the parties was carried out via the Joint Coordination Center.

3 The UN — Syria

The Russian Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Gennady Kuzmin, stated during a video meeting of the UN Security Council that the one-sided sanctions against Syria, as well as the same measures done by the Ukrainian authorities against the DPR and the LPR, make the civilians suffer due to the spread of the coronavirus. Gennady Kuzmin underlined the importance of the UN Secretary General’s call for a cessation of the hostilities in order to fight the pandemic. “But it won’t be enough without a reminder of his call to lift the sanctions that prevent the countries from containing the pandemic” — the ‘TASS’ quoted Gennady Kuzmin. He added that the lifting of the one-sided sanctions, including the ones for Syria, is necessary «to ensure the access to the medical care, as well as the affordable medicines, vaccines, personal protective equipment, and to the food».

4 Syria

The Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva, Gennady Gatilov, stated that the agenda of the Syrian constitutional committee has been agreed upon. The committee will be called immediately after the pandemic. “Before the crisis erupted, there was an active discussion of the Syrian settlement in Geneva. Right before this activity stopped — we managed to agree on the agenda of the constitutional committee for Syria” — Gennady Gatilov said and underlined that he maintains the contact with the UN special envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, via the phone.

5 Afghanistan

The ‘Tolo News’ TV reports, while citing a statement of a representative of the governor of Parwan, Wahida Shahkar, that the Taliban attacked a checkpoint in the province of Parwan, in north-east of Afghanistan. As a result of the attack at least 7 servicemen were killed, 1 was wounded. A source in the security service said that at least 10 servicemen were killed as the result of the attack on the checkpoint.

6 Russia — the EU

“The Kremlin officially regrets that some EU countries have been prohibited by their allies from asking Russia to help to fight the coronavirus” — said Dmitry Peskov, the spokesman of the Russian president. «We know that in a number of European capitals, the ambassadors of some states insist that the leadership of these countries shouldn’t interact with Russia in the humanitarian aid matters» — Peskov explained. “Those ambassadors do not particularly resort to the standards of the diplomatic behavior. They demand the countries to refuse both the current and possible help. It can indeed cause a regret, especially due to the misunderstanding in this difficult period of life of the entire globe. This time requires us to carry out mutual assistance, and mutual trust «- the ‘TASS’ quoted Dmitry Peskov. Earlier the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told to the Chinese newspaper ‘Global Times’ that some Western countries prohibit their own allies from calling Russia for help in fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
