The IMF announced the need to raise the gas prices for the population of Ukraine. Yost Ljungman, the permanent representative of the IMF, explained that the difference in gas prices on the Ukrainian market is the main cause of corruption and un-economic consumption of energy resources, thus the cost of gas in Ukraine must be increased. In his opinion, the rise in price of the blue fuel will help to deal with corruption schemes when gas is bought at a low price for households with sub-sequent resale to businesses at a higher price, RIA NEWS reports. Currently, an increase in the gas prices for the Ukrainian population is one of the conditions for the IMF to provide Ukraine with the next tranche.
During a press conference held after the talks with his colleagues from the Baltic countries, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Moravecki said that Warsaw has long achieved independence from Russian gas, but even despite this fact — Poland and the Baltic countries still consider the Nord Stream-2 project to be «Extremely dangerous for this part of Europe».
