Greece took steps towards rapprochement with the United States. The Greek Defense Minister, Panos Kammenos, suggested to his American counterpart, James Mattis, to build military bases in the cities of Larissa, Volos and Alexandroupoli — «Kathimerini» reports. Panos Kammenos explained that if the United States agree to deploy their forces in the country — it’d be important for Greece. Meanwhile one US military base is already functioning in the town of Souda on the island of Crete. As it became known — the United States are considering the construction of a military base on Karpathos, to which they intend to move all the aircraft from the Incirlik airbase in Turkey.

Russia plans to help Iran to ensure their economic interests despite the sanctions from the United States, Interfax reports while citing Israeli agency »Mako». According to that agency — the leaders of the two countries agreed on a trade mechanism that should minimize the damage from American economic measures. According to the document, Iran will ship their crude oil across the Caspian Sea to the refineries located in Russia. From there — that oil will be sold by Russia, which will in their turn pay to Iran for the raw oil.

Another round of inter-Korean high-level negotiations, aimed to reduce the military tensions, have started in the village of Panmunjom, located on the border between the DPRK and the Republic of Korea — TASS reported with a reference to the South Korean ministry of unification. The parties intend to discuss the creation of a joint military commission, the assessment of the state of the DPRK’s highways and railways, and the possibility of meetings between relatives from the families, separated by the Korean War. South Korean President, Moon Jae-in, proposed to start the integration with the DPRK from the creation of a “railway community” of six countries of North-east Asia — which include both Koreas, Russia, China, Mongolia and Japan — and the United States.

The Japanese government intends to build a military base in Djibouti — RT reports with a reference to Sankei Shimbun. According to Sankei Shimbun — Tokyo plans to rent an area of about 12 hectares from the authorities of Djibouti to build barracks, administrative building and warehouses. Currently there is a temporary Japanese military base located in Djibouti — it takes part in the fight against the Somali pirates.
