Continuation of the battles on the border of Azerbaijan and Armenia

1 Libya

The official representative of the Libyan National Army, Ahmed al-Mismari, announced that the LNA, headed by the Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, is expecting a big battle in the near future for the strategically important city of Sirt, and the municipality of Al-Joufra. They will fight the forces of the Government of National Accord, supported by Turkey — the »Al Hadath» TV quoted al-Mismari. He noted that in those areas there are currently significant movements of forces of the GNA, headed by Faiz Sarraj, as well as the Turkish forces. «The army expects the start of the battle at any time. It does not attack, but it will restrain any forces that try to carry out an assault» — al-Mismari explained.

2 Russia — the USA — Syria

The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Sergei Vershinin, discussed with the US ambassador to Russia, John Sullivan, the issues of the settlement in Syria and Libya. «The parties exchanged their views on a number of topical issues on the UN Security Council agenda. They considered efforts to ensure a long-term settlement in Libya and Syria, based on the respect for the sovereignty, unity, and the territorial integrity of these countries» — the Russian Foreign Ministry’s website reported. The parties expressed an interest in the coordination of the Russian and American approaches on this issue.

3 Azerbaijan — Armenia

The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry reported about a destruction of an another fortified position of one of the Armenian infantry company, stationed on the border of the two countries. On Tuesday evening the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense announced the destruction of the company’s fortified position, and some military equipment of the Armenian forces stationed on the border. The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry denied the allegations from Armenia about the use of the MLRS ‘Grad’ in battles in the Tovuz region. «That type of weaponry wasn’t used by our forces» — said the head of the press service of the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry, Vagif Dargyakhly. Both Armenia and Azerbaijan reported that the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border during the last night, and on the Wednesday morning remained relatively calm.

4 Azerbaijan — Armenia

The Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense announced the destruction of an another fortified firing point of the Armenian forces in the Tovuz region. «Another fortified firing point of the Armenian armed forces was destroyed by Azerbaijani troops» — said the head of the press service of the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan, Colonel Vagif Dargyakhly.

5 The OSCE — Azerbaijan — Armenia

The OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, the Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, called on Azerbaijan and Armenia to return immediately to the ceasefire. «I am deeply concerned about the increase of violence on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan. I call for immediate return to the ceasefire, before even more people die» — the OSCE press service quoted his words. He expressed his condolences to the families and friends of the victims. Edi Rama also expressed his support for the Minsk process.

6 Armenia

The Armenian Ambassador to Russia, Vardan Toganyan, stated that Yerevan notified the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office about the deployment of the firing points of the Azerbaijani forces within the settlements on the border, thus provoking Armenia to shell civilian targets. He also noted that Yerevan doesn’t intend to contact the CSTO on the issue of the deployment of a peacekeeping contingent on the border with Azerbaijan. The representative of the Armenian Ministry of Defense, Artsrun Ovhannisyan, confirmed this position. «The local scale of the conflict hasn’t reached such a level yet that would make Armenia consider it necessary to turn to the CSTO for an intervention.
