Fierce clashes in Idlib

1 Syria

The «Al Arabiya» TV reported that on Monday, the Turkish army and the forces of the so-called ‘armed Syrian opposition’ launched an attack on the positions of the Syrian army in the Idlib province. According to the ‘Al Arabiya’ TV — the Turkish forces and the Syrian opposition launched a ground offensive operation in the direction of the city of Neyrab. The ‘Al Arabiya’ TV specified that there are «violent clashes between the attackers and the Syrian government forces».

The Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced that Moscow and Ankara are preparing a new series of consultations on the situation in the Syrian province of Idlib. He expressed his hope that the consultations would help Moscow and Ankara to reach «An agreement on how to ensure that the ‘de-escalation zone’ stands true to its name, and how to prevent the terrorists from controlling it”. According to Sergey Lavrov — the Turkish military near Idlib understands that the fighting in the de-escalation zone is being waged against the terrorists. He also underlined that Russia considers the hints from the US about the possibility of establishing a dialogue with the terrorist group ‘Jebhat al-Nusra’ in Idlib to be unacceptable.

The representative of the German Foreign Ministry, Maria Adebar, stated that the German Foreign Ministry is aware of the actions of the terrorist groups in the Syrian province of Idlib, but «the fight against the terrorist groups can’t be waged to the detriment of the civilian population.» “We insist on a cessation of the hostilities, on a truce, and on an access to the humanitarian aid” — said Maria Adebar. She underlined that Germany remains in contact with Russia and Turkey on the issue of achieving a truce in Idlib.
