Germany is against the supply of weapons to Ukraine. || Спецвыпуск 23.01.2022
This is a special program from the ANNA NEWS. I am Constantine Reztsov.
There is a growing pressure on the German government to consider supplying arms to Kiev, given the Ukrainian situation. The German Defense Minister, Christine Lambrecht, once again rejected such demands.
Ukraine is still using the so-called «Russian invasion threat» as an excuse to ask Berlin to supply the country with weapons and military equipment to repel the aforementioned invasion.
Germany is one of the biggest arms exporters in the world. Berlin is trying to adhere to the law that prohibits the supply of weapons to the active conflict zones — the Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock stated during a recent visit to Kiev.
“Our restrictive position is well known, and it is rooted in history” — she explained.
Recently, several NATO countries — the UK, the Czech Republic, and the Baltic countries — announced the supply of weapons to Ukraine. The USA supplied 90 tons of weaponry, including the ammo.
A while ago Germany refused to issue permits to Estonia for the export of weapons, previously received from Germany.
Namely — the 122mm artillery pieces «D-30’’, with a range of about 20 kilometers. The Soviet-made cannons were originally placed in Germany. In the 90s the cannons were sold to Finland, who then sold them to Estonia in 2009. Under the terms of the sale, both countries must agree to the further export of these weapons. The German government did not give the consent.
The Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmitry Kuleba, tried to soften the situation. He stated that «the dialogue with Germany on this issue will be continued».
The deliveries, blocked by Germany, were supposed to be the next batch of weapons from Estonia for Ukraine. In recent days, the USA have allowed Estonia to supply Ukraine with some ATGMs ’’Javelin’’. Latvia and Lithuania could export some AA missiles ’’Stinger’’. Estonia was also supposed to enhance the cybersecurity of the Ukrainian army.
