Haftar has not signed a settlement agreement

The Russian Foreign Ministry has assured that the work aimed to resolve the situation in Libya together with the parties of the conflict is still continuing. The Russian Foreign Ministry also confirmed that the commander of the Libyan National Army, Khalifa Haftar, left Moscow without signing a ceasefire agreement. The ‘Al Arabiya’ TV channel reported that Khalifa Haftar won’t sign a ceasefire agreement with the forces of the Government of National Consent, headed by Fayez Sarraj, until all the necessary amendments are made to the agreement. The Russian Ministry of Defense reports that before signing the document — Haftar took two days to discuss the agreements, reached in Moscow, with the leaders of the tribes that support the Libyan National Army. The delegation of the Government of National Consent of Libya, led by Fayez Sarraj, left Moscow after signing the agreement. They are currently in Istanbul. On the night of 14th of January the clashes resumed at the south of Tripoli.

The US military base ‘At-Tazhi’ in Iraq, that currently has stationed American troops, was attacked with rockets. The base is located about 30 km north of Baghdad. The checkpoints began to operate on Monday, on 13:00 by Moscow time. «The checkpoint Abu al-Duhour is located in the province of Idlib. The checkpoint El Hader is in the province of Aleppo. The checkpoint Habit is in the province of Hama» — the Center specified.

Yuri Borenkov also said that «the reports from a number of mass media outlets about the attacks, allegedly inflicted by the Russian aircraft on the civilian targets in the Idlib DMZ, are false». “Since the beginning of the ceasefire, the Russian Air Force hasn’t carried out any combat sorties” — Yuri Borenkov concluded.

The Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a large press conference on the results of 2019. He answered questions from the media representatives about the situation in Ukraine, Libya, relations with the United States, and the course of the Russian diplomacy. «The aggressive actions of a number of Western states, mostly — the United States, are the main destabilizing factor in the international arena» — he said.
