Libya: A military intervention from Egypt
1 Libya
The Libyan National Army spokesman, Ahmed al-Mismari, stated the LNA, led by the Field Marshal Khalif Haftar, announced an introduction of a no-fly zone over the city of Sirt and the nearby areas — the ‘Al Arabiya’ TV quoted Al-Mismari. According to him, «any airplanes that fly into this no-fly zone will be shot down». Al-Mismari also stated that it is now forbidden to leak the information about the movement of the LNA forces.
2 Libya — Egypt
The ‘TASS’ news agency reports, while citing their source, that an emergency meeting of the League of Arab States at the level of foreign ministers on the situation in Libya will be held on Tuesday, 23rd of June. The meeting will be held as a video conference by a request from Egypt. The «Sky News Arabia» TV reports that earlier on Saturday, the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi didn’t rule out a possibility of a military intervention in Libya with the goal of «ending the bloodshed in a neighboring country, and ensuring the security of the Egyptian borders». He underlined that such move «will have a legitimate status», and «the Egyptian troops will move out if they are asked by the Libyans». A special statement from the Presidential Council of the Government of National Accord of Libya, which was aired on Sunday by the Libyan TV channel ‘Al-Ahrar’, stated that the words of the Egyptian president regarding the Libyan crisis are an encroachment on the sovereignty of Libya, and those words can be regarded as a declaration of a war. The statement reminded that the internationally recognized Libyan Government of National Accord «is the only legal representation of Libya, and only GNA has the right to define the forms and types for agreements and unions».
3 The USA — Libya
«The USA are calling on all parties of the armed conflict in Libya to stop the fighting, and start the negotiations» — the White House National Security Council stated. “The USA strongly oppose the military escalation in Libya — by all sides. We urge the parties to commit themselves to a ceasefire, and resume the negotiations immediately. We must build on the progress, made during the 5+5 group negotiations in the UN, by the Cairo Initiative, and by the Berlin Process» — The White House National Security Council twitted.
4 The USA — Venezuela
Donald Trump said during an interview to the news agency ‘Axios’ that he admits the possibility of a meeting with the Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. He also stated that he doesn’t regret that he had followed the advice of the former US National Security Assistant, John Bolton, regarding the support of the Venezuelan opposition leader — Juan Guaido. Earlier Juan Guaido announced that the new plans, aimed at the removal of the current Venezuelan administration, will be announced on the next week. He also accused the administration of Venezuelan President, Nicolas Maduro, of trying to misinform the Venezuelan population. The video of Juan Guaido’s speech was posted by the ‘TVV’ on Twitter.
5 Japan — The USA
The news agency ‘Kyodo’ stated, while citing a book of the former National Security Assistant to the US President, John Bolton, that in 2019 the USA demanded Japan to increase the funding of the maintenance of the American military bases in Japan by 4 times, up to $8 billions of dollars. In case of a failure — Donald Trump threatened to pull out all the American troops from Japan. Earlier the Japanese government rejected such information. The «Kyodo» claims that they quote a book of John Bolton.
6 Japan — The USA
The ‘NHK’ TV reported that chlorine gas leaked during a fire in a hazardous substances depot at the US Air Force base »Kaden», in the Okinawa Prefecture. Earlier the »Kyodo» news agency reported about a fire at the hazardous substances depot at the US airbase »Kaden» on the Japanese island of Okinawa — the news agency quoted the command of the base. The fire was detected on Monday morning. It took about 6 hours to extinguish the flames. No-one was injured. The fire didn’t spread beyond the airbase. However, the fire led to the leakage of the chlorine gas. Residents of the nearby areas were warned of the need to consult a doctor in case of pain in the eyes, throat, and nose.
