This is a special program from the ANNA NEWS. I am Constantine Reztsov. Today’s special is the on-going military operation in Ukraine.

A briefing was held for the Russian and foreign journalists, in which the official representatives of the Russian Ministry of Defense summed up the preliminary results of the first stage of the special military operation in Ukraine. According to the Russian General Staff, the main goals have been successfully completed. The head of the Main Operations Directorate of the General Staff, General Sergei Rudskoy, stated that the main option was chosen during planning.

With the beginning of the advancement of the DPR and the LPR forces on the positions of the Ukrainian forces in Donetsk and Luhansk regions — the Russian forces also organized a number of large-scale operations in the south, east and north of Ukraine. This made it possible to cut off the main forces of Ukraine in the Donbas region from the rest of the country, and make it impossible for Ukraine to send reinforcements, weapons, and military equipment to that area.

By operating in several directions — Kiev — Kharkov — Nikolaev -Kherson — Chernigov, the Russian forces forced the Ukrainian forces to split up, thus cutting their ability to move around. The operation that started on 24th of February caught the Ukrainian forces during their combat deployment. The briefing provided an evidence on this matter.

At the end of January, the Russian HQ received a secret circular about the beginning of the invasion of the Donbass and the Crimean peninsula. Estimated start time — March. From the first day of the operation, pinpoint strikes were carried out by artillery, missile systems, combat aircraft. They targeted the main parts of the military infrastructure. The main communications for the transfer of reinforcements, ammunition and fuel were captured.

As a result — most of the combat-ready groups of thousands of Ukrainian forces, concentrated in the Donbass region, were cut off from the supply lines. The air superiority was mostly achieved. Airfields, most of the Ukrainian combat aircraft and helicopters, and air defense systems were destroyed. The Ukrainian navy ceased to exist.

The Ukrainian forces near the city of Izyum are rapidly retreating towards the towns of Slavyansk and Barvenkovo. They are trying to create new defense lines. They no longer have the strength and the ability to hold back the Russian forces. The Russian motorized infantry and paratroopers, together with tanks and with an active support of strike aircraft, are entering the deep rear of the Donbass group of the Ukrainian forces. The outer ring of encirclement is about to be completed.

The liberation of the city of Mariupol is almost over. The Russian Special Forces, supported by the Russian Guard from the Chechnya, are breaking through the defenses of the Ukrainian forces in the industrial zone around the «Azovstal» plant. The Ukrainian neo-Nazis are desperately resisting. They have almost no heavy weapons, they are low on ammo. The difficulty for the Russian forces lies in the fact that the Ukrainian militants are holding a large number of civilians hostage. The Special forces try to act very carefully. Often they cover the civilians with their own bodies.

Everyone is interested in the main question — what will happen next? No-one doubts that the Donbas group of the Ukrainian forces will either be destroyed, or they will surrender in the near future. Major cities — Kiev, Kharkov, Chernigov, and others — are under blockade, or in operational besieging.

General Rudsky said the following: «The Russian General Staff didn’t plan to storm the major cities of Ukraine, but the General Staff doesn’t exclude such possibility». It can be assumed that these tasks will be solved at the 2nd stage of the special operation.
