New shelling in the Gaza Strip and Israel

1 Israel — the Gaza Strip

The Palestinian movement Hamas announced the start of a new wave of rocket attacks on the Israeli cities and army bases in response to the Israeli strikes. Earlier the Palestinian radicals from the Gaza Strip fired rockets at the south of Israel. The Gaza Strip accused the IDF of using phosphorus munitions during the shelling. The IDF press office reported that 54 Israeli fighter jets hit 35 military targets, and attacked 15 km of tunnels in the north of the Gaza Strip on Monday, as part of the massive campaign to destroy the underground infrastructure of the Hamas movement in the enclave. On Monday night, the Israeli Air Force attacked 9 houses that belonged to the high-ranking commanders of the HAMAS.

2 Palestine

The Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Staye announced that Palestine is asking the UN to pass a resolution to condemn the Israeli actions in the Gaza Strip. Palestine intends to «appeal to the UN General Assembly, since no country can veto its resolutions». He noted that the international community should intervene in the situation in order to «stop the Israeli aggression», and develop a draft solution to the problem, which should be based on the norms of the international law.

3 Syria

The deputy head of the Russian Center for the Reconciliation of the Warring Parties in Syria, Rear Admiral Alexander Karpov, stated that on 16th of May the terrorists fired at the positions of government forces in the Idlib DMZ. During a telephone conversation with the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev described the situation on the border with Armenia as ’stable’. «Currently, the process of specifying the border is underway. Armenia shows a chaotic reaction to the process. The appeal from Armenia on this matter to the Collective Security Treaty Organization is an attempt to internationalize the process. It is completely baseless. There were no clashes at the border. The situation is stable, and the negotiations are continuing» — Ilham Aliyev’s press service stated.
