Situation in Afghanistan
The Pentagon spokesman John Kirby stated on-air of the ’Fox News’ that Washington is concerned about the escalation of the situation in Afghanistan, the increased violence, and the advances of the Taliban. He added that the USA are closely monitoring the development of the situation, and are working with the Afghan partners so that they can use the opportunities that they possess.
The Afghan security forces have eliminated the head of the intelligence of the Taliban — the official website of the Afghan Interior Ministry reported. The operation was reportedly carried out on Monday night, in the Logar province. They also detained two henchmen of the head of the intelligence of the Taliban.
Zamir Kabulov, the special envoy of the Russian president for Afghanistan and the director of the 2nd Asia Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the diplomats of the Russian consulate general in Afghanistan were sent to Uzbekistan for a while. The decision was made due to the security reasons, since the city of Hairaton, where the employees of the consulate general worked, isn’t safe. Zamir Kabulov stated that there is no threat to the safety of the Russian diplomats at the embassy in Kabul. He also noted that the events in Afghanistan are concerning, but Russia predicted this course of events. Zamir Kabulov added that a new Moscow-format meeting on the Afghan peace settlement will take place when all the conditions are presented.
The Kazakh Foreign Ministry reported that they haven’t received any requests from the USA to accommodate Afghan refugees who had collaborated with the US forces. Earlier the ’Bloomberg’ reported that the Joe Biden’s administration asked Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan to temporarily house about 9,000 Afghans who worked for the US forces.
Andrei Dudkin, a representative of the Russian Center for the Reconciliation of the Warring Parties in Syria, stated that the refugees from the village of Zara in Hama province, which was destroyed by terrorists in 2016, are returning to their homes from the refugee camp in the village of Homs. It was noted that the refugee camp has been disbanded, and 152 people who have lived in the refugee camp since 2016, will return to their homes. The military carried out a humanitarian action, and distributed food packages to the villagers.
The Cuban TV channels reported that protests broke out in several cities in Cuba. The protesters destroyed a number of shops.
