Tense situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border
1 Armenia — Azerbaijan
The Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia, Mher Grigoryan, stated that the Trilateral Commission of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan, made to unblock the regional communications, has suspended their work due to the tense situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. He added that «Yerevan will do everything so that the situation on the border is resolved by peaceful and diplomatic means». The situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border in the area of Gegharkunik and Syunik regions remains tense since 12th of May. Yerevan and Baku both report about provocations.
2 China — Syria
The Chinese President Xi Jinping stated in his telegram to the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who recently won in the presidential elections, that China will provide all possible assistance to Syria in reviving the country’s economy, improving the life of the population, and in fighting of the coronavirus pandemic. The text of the telegram was published on the Chinese Central Television. The message noted that China «will promote the advancement of the Sino-Syrian cooperation to a new level».
3 The Gaza Strip — Israel
The ’Hamas’ is ready for the urgent negotiations with Israel on the exchange of PoWs — the Palestinian radio station ’Dunya Al Watan’ quoted the statement from the leader of the political bureau of the movement, made after negotiations with the head of the General Intelligence Directorate of Egypt. Earlier, the ’Hamas’ movement stated that it doesn’t accept linking the issue of restoration of Gaza to a PoW exchange deal.
4 Germany
The German Foreign Ministry announced that the Second Berlin Conference on Libya will be held in Berlin on 23rd of June. The ministry added that the representatives of the Libyan transitional government will take part in the conference for the first time. It was reported that it is planned to discuss the details of stabilization of the situation in Libya, discuss the next steps of the settlement, preparations for the national elections, which are planned for 24th of December, and the withdrawal of the foreign mercenaries from the country.
5 Germany — The USA
The German Foreign Minister, Heiko Maas, stated that German government officials are currently negotiating with the US administration on the implementation of the ’Nord Stream 2’ project, and on the settlement of disagreements, related to the construction of the gas pipeline. Earlier the mass media reported that a senior negotiating team from Germany will visit the USA during this week. The parties will discuss the ’Nord Stream 2’ gas pipeline project. The delegation is being led by the Foreign Policy Advisor to the German Chancellor, Jan Hecker, and the Economic Advisor to Angela Merkel, Lars-Hendrik Reller. According to the mass media reports — they will meet with the US Presidential National Security Adviser, Jake Sullivan, and the new US Trade Representative, Catherine Tai.
6 Belarus — Russia
The President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, stated that during the talks in Sochi with Vladimir Putin, he introduced the Russian President to the analytical materials of the Belarusian special services, which also concern Russia. Lukashenko made this statement during a meeting on the Russian-Belarusian cooperation. Negotiations between Putin and Lukashenko took place over the weekend. It was reported that the governments of Belarus and Russia have been instructed to work out the measures for a joint response to the Western sanctions.
