The Americans handed over the military base in Bagram to the Afghan government
This is a special program from the ’ANNA NEWS’, I am Constantine Reztsov.
The USA handed over the key military base in Bagram to the Afghan authorities — the TOLOnews reported with a reference to the Afghan Ministry of Defense.
The Bagram base has been the main stronghold of the American presence in Afghanistan for nearly 20 years. The handover of the base means the most of the US forces have already left Afghanistan. During the 1979-1989 Afghan War, it was also the largest Soviet airbase.
The Afghan Defense Minister, Bismillah Muhammadi, had a telephone conversation with his American counterpart, Lloyd Austin. During the conversation, he discussed strategic and military cooperation between the two countries.
“The US Secretary of Defense praised the active and visible role of the Afghan Defense and Security Forces in the fight against the terrorism. He noted that the USA are committed to long-term cooperation with the Afghan Defense and Security Forces in the matters of funding, equipment and training” — the Afghan ministry stated.
Bismillah Muhammadi thanked the USA for providing the military and financial aid. As well as equipping and training the security forces, and increasing the fleet of aircraft of the Afghan Air Force. It is planned to complete the pulling of the US forces from the country by 11th of September, 2021.
