The EU is concerned with the actions of Turkey in Syria
A unifying gathering took place in Kiev. The creation of the Ukrainian Orthodox Autocephalous Church was announced as a result. Epiphanius Dumenko was elected as its head — he’s now the Metropolitan of Kiev and All Ukraine. The new church was named the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. The Patriarch of Constantinople invited the newly elected head of the Ukrainian church to the ceremony of giving a tomos of autocephaly. The ceremony will be held on 6th of January, 2019. The Russian Orthodox Church, in its turn, called the unifying council in Kiev as “insignificant”, and the election of the head of the united local church as “meaningless”.
In the Zhytomyr region, on Saturday, around 3:00 pm, a Su-27 fighter jet crashed while landing. The pilot died. Criminal proceedings were opened under the article of «Violation of the rules of flights, or preparation for them.»
Australia recognized the western part of the city of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel — said the country’s prime minister Scott Morrison. The Australian Embassy will remain in the city of Tel Aviv however, until the resolution of the conflict in the region. Australian military and trade missions will be established in the city of Jerusalem. «Reflecting its commitment to the principle of »two states for two nations «- the Australian government also decided to recognize the claims of the Palestinian people for their future state with its capital in East Jerusalem» — said Scott Morrison.
A US Navy anti-submarine patrol aircraft P-8A Poseidon conducted a reconnaissance flight over a closed sea area in the Mediterranean, near Syria, where the Russian Navy ships were to conduct their exercises on Saturday. P-8A took off from Sigonella airbase in Sicily. Despite the international warnings about the closure of the sea area for aircraft flights, the P-8A cruised for about an hour along the coastline of Syria — near the locations of the Russian air force base Hmeimim, and the logistics base of the Russian Navy in the Syrian port Tartus. The flight of the P-8A took place at a distance of about 30 km from the shores of Syria — almost at the sea borders.
A gas explosion took place in one of the apartments in a residential building in the city of Vologda. 7 people were injured, 3 people are in serious condition. One woman died on the way to the hospital. The affected area was about 30 square meters. On the frontal side of the building there is a crack line going from fifth to third floor. The residents of the building were evacuated, and relocated to the nearest school. The city introduced an emergency mode.
