The Russian military doctors on the frontline

1 Italy

The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that the Russian military experts continue their work in the Italian region of Lombardy. The Russian military doctors, together with their Italian colleagues, carried out a complete disinfection of “20 retirement houses in the cities of Lombardy. More than 80,000 square meters of indoor space have been processed” — the report specified. The Russian Ministry of Defense added that on 6th of April the Russian and the Italian medical groups plan to begin a joint work on receiving and treating patients with the new coronavirus in a field hospital in Bergamo, which is designed for 142 patients. The hospital will have more than 200 Italian and Russian specialists.

2 Russia

The number of the days off in Russia could be reduced if the threat of the spread of the new coronavirus becomes minimal — the Kremlin stated. As it was explained by the press secretary of the President of Russia, Dmitry Peskov — Vladimir Putin, during his TV address, spoke about the general situation. As long as there is a threat of the spread of the virus and an onset of an epidemic — the days off will continue, the Kremlin representative explained.

3 The UN

During a UN General Assembly, Ukraine, Georgia, the UK, the USA, and the EU did not support the draft resolution, proposed by Russia, calling for the lifting of the one-sided sanctions that prevent countries from fighting the new coronavirus. The Russian Permanent Representative to the UN underlined that this decision will complicate the containment of the pandemic. Earlier the UN General Assembly adopted an alternative, a more general draft resolution, calling for «the solidarity of the countries in the fight against the pandemic», which ignored the proposals of the UN Secretary General to lift the sanctions.

4 the USA

The Financial Times reported while citing their sources that the American oil companies launched a lobbying campaign in order to support the imposition of sanctions against Russia and Saudi Arabia. The Financial Times noted that this is an attempt to force the US authorities to influence the two oil-producing countries just so they would reduce the oil production. Among the proposed restrictive measures were: an introduction of duties on the imported oil, a suspension of military aid to Saudi Arabia, an introduction of tariffs on the Russian energy resources. The abolition of the existing duties on Russia would also be considered if Moscow agrees to cooperate with Washington. Earlier, Donald Trump stated that he did not discuss with Vladimir Putin and the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, the issue of reduction of the oil production in the USA. Donald Trump also expressed his opinion that Russia and Saudi Arabia should agree to reduce their oil production by 10-15 million barrels per day.

5 Russia

The press service of the Russian Southern Military District reported that the Naval Aviation and Air Defense Forces of the Black Sea Fleet are taking part in exercises — they are traing to defend the Crimea from air attacks. The exercises are being led by the commander of the Southern Military District — Colonel-General Alexander Dvornikov. The exercises involve the S-400 systems — they repel the attacks of a potential enemy while being covered by the friendly aircraft such as multi-purpose fighters Su-30SM, front-line bombers Su-24M, and attack aircraft Su-25SM.

6 Canada — Iraq — Ukraine

The CBC reported that the Canadian Department of Homeland Defense ordered to pull back some of the Canadian troops, currently involved in various missions in Iraq and Ukraine, due to the coronavirus pandemic. It was reported that most of the 200 Canadian military instructors, stationed in Western Ukraine, will return home. The instructors stationed in Iraq will be partially relocated to the Canadian air base in Kuwait. No data on the number of the displaced servicemen was reported.
