This is a special program from the ’ANNA News’. I am Constantine Reztsov.

The Taliban have threatened the USA with a new escalation if the US troops won’t leave Afghanistan, as it was agreed with the previous US administration.

The Taliban responded to the recent report from a group of experts that recommended to postpone the pulling of troops. The US Congress received the report from the Afghanistan Study Group, on Wednesday. Washington was advised to continue the dialogue with the Taliban. It was specified that a complete withdrawal of the troops could lead to a civil war in Afghanistan, an increase in the threat from the ’al-Qaeda’, and to the destabilization of the entire region.

“The USA shouldn’t just give victory to the Taliban” — the report concluded.

The February 2020 agreement with the Taliban, that was signed with the Donald Trump’s administration, provides a gradual withdrawal of all international military forces by the end of April 2021. In return, the militant Islamists, among other things, promised to negotiate peace with the Afghan government. The Taliban have guaranteed that they won’t give a shelter to the members of other terrorist organizations on their territory.

The new US administration announced that they will renegotiate the agreement. The White House has yet to make a final decision on the military presence in Afghanistan.

The Afghan government and US diplomats are accusing the Taliban of failing to fulfill their obligations under the Doha agreement. They insist that, contrary to what was agreed upon, the Taliban did not reduce the level of violence, and they did not enter into any real negotiations with the local government.

Shortly before Joe Biden took office, the USA reduced the number of their troops in Afghanistan down to 2,500 servicemen, which is a record low number since the invasion of the country in 2001, after the 9/11 attacks that involved the ’Al Qaeda’ terrorists. After those events, the USA decided to end the rule of the Taliban in Afghanistan.

The “ANNA News” is following the events. Stay tuned.
