The US Senate will impeach Trump
1 The USA
The ’Politico’ reported that the US Senate will consider the charges against the current US President Donald Trump as part of his impeachment an hour after the inauguration of the US President-elect Joe Biden. A study of the accusations, brought against Donald Trump by the House of Representatives of Congress is expected to begin in the Senate on 20th of January, at 13:00. The inauguration of Joe Biden will take place on 20th of January, on the steps of the Capitol, at noon.
2 Nagorno-Karabakh
The website of the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev reported that he launched the construction of an airport in the Fizuli region, in Karabakh. «On 14th of January the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev laid the foundation of the Fizuli-Shusha highway on the 27th kilometer of the Ahmadbeyli-Fizuli-Shusha highway, as well as an airport in the Fizuli region» — the website reported. Ilham Aliyev announced the start of the restoration work in Karabakh, and a «great return» to the region. He added that «a work has begun on the restoration of the city of Shusha, and the return of its historical appearance to the city».
3 The USA — Yemen
While speaking at the Security Council meeting on the situation in Yemen, the director of the UN World Food Program, David Beasley, stated that the US decision to list the Yemeni movement ’Ansar Allah’ as a terrorist organization would be a death sentence for hundreds of thousands of Yemenis, since the humanitarian organizations won’t be able to supply food due to the sanctions. He added that the UN delivers food to 13 millions of people. Another 17 millions are supported by various humanitarian organizations that won’t be able to work due to the US sanctions. The UN Deputy Secretary General for the Humanitarian Affairs, Mark Loucock, stated that the recognition of the ’Ansar Allah’ movement by the USA as a terrorist organization can cause a famine in Yemen on a scale that the country hasn’t faced in the last 40 years.
4 Russia
The Russian Foreign Ministry announced that Russia is starting the domestic procedures, needed to leave the ’Open Skies Treaty’. It was noted that the exit of the USA caused serious damage to the treaty, thus upsetting the balance of interests of the participating states, and undermining the role of the treaty as an instrument of building of security. The Russian Foreign Ministry added that once the USA left the agreement — Moscow put forward «proposals, corresponding to the fundamental provisions» of the treaty, in order to maintain its viability. However, Moscow «didn’t receive any support from the US allies».
5 Russia — Iran
The Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova announced during a briefing that on 26th of January, the Russian and the Iranian Foreign Ministers, Sergei Lavrov and Mohammad Javad Zarif, will hold negotiations in Moscow. «It is planned to continue the exchange of views on a number of international issues, including the situation in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, the situation with the Joint Comprehensive Action Plan for the Iranian nuclear program, the state of affairs in Syria, Afghanistan, and the Persian Gulf» — Maria Zakharova concluded.
6 The DPRK
On Thursday evening, a military parade was held in Pyongyang, in honor of the 8th Congress of the Korean Workers’ Party. The Korean Central Telegraph Agency reported that submarine-launched strategic ballistic missiles were on display at the parade. «The most powerful weaponry in the world — strategic submarine-launched ballistic missiles — were demonstrated one after another on the square, showing the power of the revolutionary armed forces of the DPRK» — the news agency reported, and added that the parade was held at Kim Il Sung Square, in the center of Pyongyang, with the participation of the DPRK leader, Kim Jong-un.
