1 The USA — Yemen
During the first presidential speech on the US foreign policy issues, Joe Biden stated that the US authorities are ending the support for the Arab coalition’s military operations in Yemen, including the arms sales. Joe Biden explained that the USA will use diplomacy to end the war in Yemen that led to a humanitarian and strategic disaster. Joe Biden expressed a support for the «UN initiative to establish a ceasefire in Yemen, and resume the peace talks». Joe Biden noted that the US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, recently appointed Tim Linderking as the US Special Representative for Yemen.
2 The USA
While speaking at the US State Department, Joe Biden announced that the US Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, will reconsider the issue of the deployment of the US troops abroad. It will be done in order to ensure that the US military presence is consistent with the US foreign policy priorities, and the US national security interests. «As long as this process continues, we completely suspend the pull of the US troops from Germany» — Joe Biden concluded. Earlier, the head of the European Command of the US Armed Forces, General Tod Walters, stated during a briefing that the Joe Biden’s team had suspended the decision, made in 2020, to pull a significant part of the US troops from Germany.

On Thursday, while answering questions from the experts of the Atlantic Council Research Center, the French President Emmanuel Macron spoke in favor of a dialogue with Russia in the interests of the international stability. He explained that a comprehensive dialogue is necessary despite the existing differences. Emmanuel Macron noted that «Russia is a part of Europe, in history and geography». He noted that it is impossible to maintain peace in Europe without an opportunity to negotiate with Russia. Macron added that France considers it necessary to have broad discussions on the arms control with the participation of the EU, Russia, the USA, and China.
4 Kazakhstan
The city of Alma-Ata hosts a meeting of the prime ministers of the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union as part of the work of the Eurasian Inter-governmental Council. The meeting is being held behind closed doors. The meeting is attended by the Prime Minister of Russia, Mikhail Mishustin, the head of the government of Kazakhstan, Askar Mamin, the prime minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, the prime minister of Belarus, Roman Golovchenko, the head of the government of Kyrgyzstan, Ulukbek Maripov, and the chairman of the board of the Eurasian Economic Commission, Mikhail Myasnikovich. Later, a meeting of the Eurasian Inter-governmental Council will be held in an expanded format with the participation of representatives of the EAEU observer countries.
5 China
The ’China Daily’ reported that China plans to launch their most powerful privately-produced ’ZQ-2’ space rocket in 2021. The rocket will be created by the national company ’LandSpace’. It was reported that the company has already completed all 4 reusable eco-friendly ’TQ-12’ engines that run on liquid methane. Only the American companies ’’Space X’’ and ’’Blue Origin’’ have such engines. After the ground tests, the preparations for the launch will start. It was noted that the ZQ-2 space rocket has a diameter of 3.35 meters, it reaches 49.5 meters in length, and weighs 216 tons. The rocket is capable of delivering a payload of 4 tons into a sun-synchronous orbit, and 6 tons into low-earth orbit, which is 500 and 200 km, respectively. The launch will take place on the Jiuquan spaceport, in north-west of China.

The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, stated that Russia and the EU are interested in maintaining and expanding the channels for a dialogue. The statement was made at a press conference after the talks with the EU High Representative for the Foreign Affairs and the Security Policy — Josep Borrell. «We noted our readiness to cooperate where it is beneficial for both parties. We have a common opinion that a further degradation of the relationship will be overall negative, with very unpredictable consequences» — Sergei Lavrov explained and added that Russia expects that a choice will be made at the EU summit in March in favor of the constructive interaction between Brussels and Moscow. Josep Borrell stated that disagreements between Russia and the EU do exist. «However, it is necessary to look for the areas in which we can reach an agreement and cooperation» — he concluded.
