He took the oath of the president to the people of Kazakhstan during a joint meeting of the chambers of the parliament. He became the president of Kazakhstan for the remaining term of office of the already elected president, which expires in April of 2020. On Tuesday, Nursultan Nazarbayev, who led Kazakhstan for almost 30 years announced his retirement. The speaker of the Senate of Kazakhstan, Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev was appointed as his successor. At the same time, Nursultan Nazarbayev himself will remain as the head of the Security Council of Kazakhstan.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu held talks with the Syrian President Bashar Assad, and handed over to him the message from Vladimir Putin — RIA NEWS reports. The visit of Sergei Shoigu to Syria took place by the instruction of the Russian president. During the talks, the issues of fighting against the international terrorism in Syria, various matters of security in the Middle East region, and the post-conflict settlement were discussed.
