1 Nagorno-Karabakh

The officials of the State Emergency Service of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic reported on Facebook that they found bodies of Armenians, killed during the escalation of the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh. «As a result of the search work, by 4th of January the remains of 1,184 people, including civilians, were found» — the message stated. It was noted that on 3rd and 4th of January the rescuers found 29 such bodies in the combat zone. 4 of the dead were civilians. The prospecting work continues at the Talish-Matagis areas, in the Hadrut and Fizuli regions.

2 Saudi Arabia

The participants of the summit of the Cooperation Council of the Arab States of the Persian Gulf, which includes Bahrain, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, and Saudi Arabia signed an agreement in the Saudi city of Al Ulya to end the diplomatic crisis with Qatar. The meeting was broadcast live by the ’Al Arabiya’ TV. The Reconciliation Agreement aims to normalize the relations with Doha. It provides the lifting of the blockade and the re-opening of the air, sea and land borders with Qatar.

3 The EU — Iran

The EU Foreign Office spokesman Peter Stano stated that the EU is seriously concerned about the Iranian intention to start the enrichment of uranium up to 20%. Peter Stano said so during a press conference in Brussels. He added that the EU still intends to do everything possible to preserve the nuclear deal with Iran. Earlier, an official spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, Behruz Kamalwandi, stated that Iran was able to enrich uranium up to 20%, at a nuclear facility in Fordow. On 4th of January an Iranian government spokesman Ali Rabii announced that Tehran launched a 20% uranium enrichment process at the facility in Fordow.

4 Iran

During a press conference hosted by the profile agency Mizan, a spokesman for the Iranian judiciary, Golyamhossein Esmaili, stated that Iran sent a request to Interpol to capture 48 people, involved in the assassination of General Qassem Soleimani. Esmaili reminded that Iran managed to establish the involvement of 48 people in the assassination. According to him, some US officials from the Pentagon and the command of the US forces in the region are guilty. Esmaily added that the main role in the assassination of General Qasem Soleimani was played by the US President Donald Trump.

5 Iran — Russia

The ’TASS’ news agency reported while citing the Iranian Embassy in Russia that the Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, may visit Moscow. The date of the visit is still unknown. The visit of the Iranian Foreign Minister was supposed to take place in November, but it was postponed. Negotiations between Mohammad Javad Zarif and the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, were planned for that visit.

6 Mali

An airstrike from an unknown aircraft in central Mali killed at least 20 civilians. 20 people were injured. This was reported by the local newspaper «A Bamaco», with a reference to their sources. The attack took place on Monday night, in the village of Bunti, near the town of Duenza. It was reported that the participants of a local wedding ceremony were bombed. The newspaper guessed that it could be a mistake of the military pilots. The Malian Air Force, the French military, currently conducting the ’Operation Barkhan’, and the UN peacekeepers all have their own combat aviation in the country. The ’EFE’ reported while citing the local mayor Adam Griab that 100 people were killed in the air raid. The official authorities have yet to comment on the situation.
