The Iraqi military base of «Ain al-Assad», used by the forces of the international anti-terrorist coalition led by the USA, came under a rocket fire — the local mass media reported. It was noted that «more than 7 rockets were fired. They fell both inside and outside of the base’’. The Al-Baghdadi area, from where the attack took place, is surrounded by the Iraqi military. The search for the perpetrators of the attack is underway. The rocket launcher was found and destroyed. Colonel Wayne Marotto, the spokesman for the US-led international anti-terrorist coalition, stated on Twitter that 14 rockets were launched at the airbase. It was noted that 3 people were slightly injured.
2 Iraq
The Erbil airport in Iraqi Kurdistan came under rocket fire on Wednesday night — the local mass media reported. The airport was attacked with a UAV. It was noted that after the attack, all passengers were evacuated from the aircraft, standing on the runway. Colonel Wayne Marotto, a spokesman for the US-led international anti-terrorist coalition, confirmed the attack. He reported that the drone that was used for the attack fell near an airbase close to the airport. There were no casualties and no damage. The mass media reported that air-raid sirens went off at the American consulate in Erbil.
3 The USA
Ned Price, the head of the press service of the US State Department, announced that the US special envoy for Afghanistan, Zalmay Khalilzad, is ready to go to Doha once again to discuss the Afghan settlement. Ned Price stated that the US administration supports the inter-Afghan negotiations, and calls for an end to the on-going violence. He noted that «there is no military solution to the conflict. 4 The USA — Afghanistan
The Pentagon spokesman John Kirby stated that the USA didn’t disclose to the Afghan authorities the exact time of the pulling of the US forces from the Bagram base for the security reasons. He noted that the US military cooperated with Afghanistan during the transferring of control over the base. John Kirby explained that the USA «should take into account that during the pulling of the US forces, the Taliban could make a move’’. Last week, the Pentagon reported that the US and NATO forces had left the base in Bagram. A number of the US mass media reported that the Afghan authorities weren’t warned in advance about the US withdrawal.
5 Russia
The Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that Russia will do everything needed to protect its allies from the threat from Afghanistan, including using the capabilities of the Russian military base on the Tajik-Afghan border. He added that Vladimir Putin had negotiations with the presidents of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, and he is in a contact with other Central Asian leaders. Sergei Lavrov mentioned that Moscow is closely observing the situation in Afghanistan. ’’The situation is usually getting worse, partly because of the fast pulling of the US and other NATO troops» — end of quote.
6 Armenia — Russia
The Russian Ambassador to Armenia, Sergei Kopyrkin, stated that Armenia and Russia are discussing the possibility of expanding the presence of the Russian border guards in the Syunik region of Armenia. He noted that «everything will be defined by the interests of the Armenian security, the interests of ensuring of the stability on the border, and the interests of implementing the agreements that have been reached in the trilateral agreement». He added that the issue of the return of citizens of Armenia from Azerbaijan, held as a result of the war in Nagorno-Karabakh, and after the incident on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, is one of the top priorities for the Russian leadership.
