Mass arrests in the USA

The «Associated Press» reports, with a reference to their own estimates, that the current number of protesters, being held in custody in many US cities after the death of George Floyd by the knee of a policeman in Minneapolis, has exceeded 10,000. 25% of all detainees are in Los Angeles. Next in numbers are the cities of New York, Dallas and Philadelphia. The ‘Associated Press’ noted that hundreds of protesters have been arrested on charges of theft and looting. About 30,000 US National Guard servicemen currently assist the police in 31 states, and in the District of Columbia. Curfews have been imposed in about 40 cities, including Washington and New York.

The «Al-Masdar» news website reported that the Syrian military and militia units destroyed an ISIS terrorist group that attacked their positions near the ‘Es Saura’ oil field, in the Raqqa province. It was reported that the government forces repelled the attack, and pushed the enemy back, killing at least 10 terrorists. The Syrian army reinforcements were recently sent to the areas in the south-west of Raqqa. With the support of aviation, the troops had begun an anti-terror operation in the region — they were ordered to protect the local oil fields.

The ‘SANA’ news agency reports that in the northern Syrian province of Hasakah, the residents of the village of Abu Rasein, together with the Syrian troops, intercepted an American convoy of 8 armored vehicles. The locals and the Syrian troops forced the convoy to retreat and get back to their base. The ‘SANA’ reminded that earlier, on 30th May, the American forces sent a military convoy of 25 armored vehicles to Syria. The convoy headed to the base located at the southern entrance to the city of Rmeilan, in the north-east of Hasakah province. The Syrian authorities have repeatedly stated that the presence of the American forces in Syria violates the sovereignty of the country, as well as the international rules.

The newspaper «Pais» reported, while citing their sources, that at the end of July, Spain will completely withdraw their contingent from the base near Baghdad. «The center of the international coalition in Bismay, under the Spanish command, was tasked to train large units of the Iraqi army and police. Their task was completed» — end of quote. After the withdrawal of the Spanish military from Bismay, about 80 servicemen will remain in Iraq at the Taji base. Plus about a hundred servicemen of the special forces that support the Iraqi military in the fight against the ISIS. »Pais» reminded that the Spanish military will leave Afghanistan at the end of this year, or at the start of the next year.

The troops of the Libyan Government of National Accord captured the city of Tarhun, located 65 km to the south-east from Tripoli — the «Al Jazeera» TV reports while citing their military source. «Our troops have established complete control over the city of Tarhun» — the official representative of the GNA forces, Muhammad Kanuno, announced on Facebook. He noted that the GNA forces were ordered to «destroy any source of resistance without mercy». Earlier on Friday the sources of the »Al Jazeera» reported that the GNA forces launched an assault on Tarhun from several sides. On Thursday the GNA forces announced the recapture of the Tripoli’s administrative borders. Earlier on Wednesday it was reported that the GNA forces pushed out the LNA forces from the International Airport of Tripoli, as well as several other areas south from the city. The LNA stated that they relocated their forces outside of Tripoli in order to successfully resume the negotiations of the military committee.

She underlined that the further hostilities can escalate the crisis in Libya. Maria Zakharova added that the conflict in Libya can be resolved «only via the Libyan nationwide dialogue».
