1 Syria

The First Russian Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Dmitry Polyansky, stated during a video meeting of the Security Council that the investigation and response team of the ’Organization for the Prohibition of the Chemical Weapons’ may report a new investigation into the use of chemical weapons, attributed to Syria. Dmitry Polyansky pointed out that the previous similar report was criticized by the independent experts, but the OPCW Technical Secretariat didn’t want to pay an attention to that criticism. Dmitry Polyansky added that it indicates that before the final report — the Investigation and Response Group will come up with an another similar surprise by reporting about a yet another pseudo-investigation with a conclusion against the Syrian authorities.

2 Russia — Armenia

The Russian Defense Ministry reported that a telephone conversation took place between the Russian Defense Minister, Sergei Shoigu, and the Armenian Defense Minister, Vagharshak Harutyunyan. It was reported that the heads of the defense ministries discussed the situation related to the settlement in Nagorno-Karabakh, and other issues of mutual interest. The Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, stated during a meeting with the Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow that the presence of the Russian peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh is becoming a major factor in the stability and security in the region.

3 Afghanistan

The ’Xinhua’ reported while citing their sources that a Taliban attack on a military camp in the Takhar province killed 6 Afghan security personnel. The security forces managed to kill 8 terrorists. The attack took place on Wednesday night. The ’Tolo News’ reported about an explosion in the city of Jalalabad, in the eastern Afghanistan. It was reported that 2 people were killed, 6 were injured. A policeman was among the victims. No other details were reported.

4 Pakistan — Russia

The Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated at a press conference after the negotiations with the Pakistani Foreign Minister, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, that Russia is ready to supply the military equipment to Pakistan in order to enhance the Pakistani anti-terrorist potential. Sergei Lavrov noted that it is the interest of all the states in the region. The parties also agreed to continue the regular joint tactical exercises in the mountains codenamed «Friendship», and the naval exercises «Arabian Monsoon», aimed to combat the terrorism and piracy.

5 Iran

The Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister, Abbas Aragchi, stated that Iran will stop the negotiations on the nuclear deal if it sees the other side playing for time, or pursuing other goals — the Iranian mass media reported. According to Aragchi — «the changes that were achieved at the meeting in Vienna can be called ’progress’. However, a number of details must be taken into account». He added that the negotiations are taking place only in the «4+1» format — with Russia, China, France, Germany and the UK. Iran has no dialogue with the USA.

6 Turkey

The Turkish newspaper ’Sabah’ reported that on Wednesday, a fighter jet from the ’Turkish Stars’ military aerobatic team crashed near the city of Konya, in central Turkey. At first it was reported that an F-16 fighter had crashed. The newspaper then reported that it was an F-5 fighter. The Turkish Ministry of National Defense reported that the pilot has died.
