This is a special program from the ’ANNA News’. I am Constantine Reztsov. The most discussed topic of the early days of the New Year is the storming of the US Capitol.

On Wednesday afternoon, on the eve of the certification of the elections results, an unprecedented disruption of the activities of an American governmental facility took place in Washington. Citizens, dissatisfied with the official results of the presidential elections, and the victory of Democrat Joe Biden, staged a massive protest on the Capitol Hill. They stormed the parliament building, and disrupted the Senate meeting. The protesters seemingly had no further plan of action. A few hours later the Capitol was cleared of the rebels.

During the protest, Donald Trump urged his supporters to behave peacefully and to not oppose the police. After the event he once again asked the protesters to behave peacefully, and he advised them to disperse. However, he still didn’t recognize the results of the elections on 3rd of November. He stated that they were falsified, and that Republican votes were stolen.

By the evening of Wednesday, the members of Congress had re-assembled to continue the consideration of the votes. The House of Representatives managed to ratify the Arizona Electoral College vote in favor of Joe Biden, 303 against 121. The objection to the Arizona electoral vote in the Senate wasn’t upheld. In the final tally, only 6 votes were cast in favor of the objection, and 93 votes were against the objection.

A source of the ’Fox News’ confirmed that the Republicans in the Congress spoke about a possible 2nd impeachment. They also spoke about the need to prevent Donald Trump from running for president in the future.

Earlier the Democrats called on the Vice President Michael Pence to take an advantage of the 25th Amendment to the Constitution, and take over the leadership of the country until the inauguration of a new president on 20th of January.

Joe Biden called the recent rally and the clashes at the Capitol to be «chaos, bordering on insurgency», and «an attack on democracy». He declared the following:

“Our democracy has come under an unprecedented attack. We haven’t seen anything like that before. It was an attack on the citadel of freedom, on the Capitol itself. This must end immediately” — end of quote.

As a result of the clashes, 5 people were killed, more than 50 were arrested. The first victim was a woman who was shot by the security in the Congress building.

A state of emergency has been declared in Washington until the inauguration of Joe Biden. The National Guard entered the US capital.
